My daughter says its AWESOME! December 31, 2008 Considering some of the reviews, I reluctantly ordered the Betty (the purple scooter) for my 8 year old daughter for Christmas. She had not asked for a scooter, but I just knew she would love it... and she did. She says that this scooter is the best gift she has ever received. It turns out that she had been eyeing this particular scooter on Razors website but figured she would never get one, so she didn't ask for it! We have had no problems whatsoever with the battery. Although the scooter weighs about as much as she does, she has no trouble handling it and her feet solidly reach the ground when sitting on it. This little scooter is quick, and even though it 'only gives an hour of ride time per charge' that 'hour' gives her a whole afternoon of fun.
Regarding assembly-- I have to admit I am 'tool challenged' and I was able to complete the minor assembly on this scooter in about 20 minutes. What took me so long, was trying to see to line up the stem for the handle bars into the faring where its inserted. It did help that other reviewers said to remove the black plastic sleeve from the bottom of the handle bars, and no, the instructions don't mention that sleeve at all. The ONLY assembly required on this scooter is to put the handle bars down into the faring and tighten 1 hex bolt, securing the handle bars and to put the front tire on, which amounts to slipping it onto the front fork and tightening those 2 bolts with wrenches. Plug in the charger overnight (for 12 hours for first charge) and its ready to go after a quick check on the brakes, and of the tire air pressure. Our scooter arrived with fully inflated tires, so adding additional air wasn't necessary.
I highly recommend this product and I can see that it will provide my daughter with many hours of fun. My 11 year old son also loves it and I can see having to buy a second one in the near future, as she is not going to want to give it up for even a few minutes to let him have a ride.
This is a great product at a great price. If you are in the market for a (toy) electric scooter such as this, then I highly recommend it. The weight capacity on this is generous and with my 70 pound daughter, it does go faster than the stated 15 mph. I highly recommend a helmet for riding.
Scootering fun for kids! December 30, 2008 This scooter is "awesome" and "great fun", according to my 10-1/2 year old daughter. This scooter is great on level surfaces - we live in a somewhat hilly neighborhood and sometimes the scooter needs a little assist to get up the hill, especially when the battery has lost a little oomph. The battery does not have a long life if continually ridden (around 30 minutes), which can be good and bad - bad in that my daughter does not get to ride it for a long time but good in that she will then hop on her bicycle and get some real exercise, ha, ha. Definitely worth the price and really, don't you wish you had one when you were a kid?!
missing part December 30, 2008 This product was shipped with a hole in the box. Opened to put together and low and behold no video and no wedge for the handle bars. Daughter very disappointed and has to wait on the part from Razor in California.
my 12 year-old's favorite gift ever! December 29, 2008 My daughter asked for this for her birthday - I had no idea how "real" it would actually look. It works great -- barely anything to assemble, just attach the handlebars and charge it up, and you are ready to cruise. I couldnt be happier with this purchase. Oh and the seat lifts open for storage. It's quite roomy and a good place to store the battery charger, so if she rides it to a friends house, she can charge up if needed.
For $199 I could not be happier December 29, 2008 My kids (girls- 14 and 10) are thrilled with the new scooters I bought them for Xmas. The assembly was as easy as could be (inflate the front tire before attaching it) and my kids were riding them immediately. I even took them for a spin (I weigh 180lbs). My 10 yr old initially was a bit timid and unsure on it, but after about half an hour she was keeping up with her older sister. The scooters are sturdy and fun. I would not hesitate buying these. These were my girls' favorite Xmas gift by far.
